zeit der unübertrefflichkeit
Description
The subject matter has a historical background while being at the same time highly topical. The experiences of young concentration camp inmate Schadrach during the Third Reich are described in a fascinating way. Behind the mask of a cultivated, educated citizen, notorious camp physician Dr. Skindal practices unimaginably cruel acts on Schadrach and other victims. Not without irony, it is demonstrated how the doctor wants to stylize his perfidious killing ritual into an absolute art form.

One could place the material in the tradition of The Gulag Archipelago or Schindler's List. zeit der unübertrefflichkeit is originally a radio play from one of the worst chapters in German history. Even though dealing with unimaginable cruelty, the concentration camp thriller refrains from depictions of violence. In his bitterly ironic, suspenseful narration, Wolfsmehl, the poet, has succeeded in making the roots of violence tangible, which exist in all of us. This reveals the unstable ethical foundation on which man stands and what he is capable of if we do not resist the wolf within us.
