Josef Straka

Josef Straka was born on 1 December 1972 in Jablonec nad Nisou and has authored two collections of poetry and...other times (G Tisk, Liberec)and Why (TVAR, Prague), which were published in the 90s, as well as four books combining poetry and prose: Hotel Bristol(2004), Mons City(2005), Church in the Mist(2008) Small Exiles(2014) and Cizí země- Strangeland(2018). He has published in numerous literary and cultural journals, both in Czechia and abroad, his texts have been translated into English, German, Polish, Serbian, Slovenian, Dutch, Hungarian, Russian, Romanian and Spanish, Portuguese and French. A psychologist by profession, with a focus on critical economic psychology, he deals with the various aspects of small economies, the quality of life and the phenomenon of slowness. Occasionally he lectures, e.g. as part of artefiletic courses or conferences focused on the quality of life and relation between literature and psychology. He organises in Prague evenings of poetry and literary discussions.
