Spiragli di Luce - Räume des Schweigens

The Italian painter Mario Fani appears in the art world like a newcomer from far away, his motifs and forms, colours and lighting, hark back to a tradition shaped by names such as Francisco de Goya, Francisco de Zurbarán, Vilhelm Hammershøi or Jan Vermeer ... And yet they seem foreign.

The scenarios are clear and simple. There are scenes of everyday life. There are monologues and dialogues, chairs where no one is sitting, plates and glasses in anticipation of a meal. Everything is presented in an all-encompassing silence. Space and time flow into one another, as it were, and those looking at the picture become part of the scenario; they are the absent/present in a pervasive silence.

They document the development of an extraordinary painter from Tuscany who is undoubtedly one of the great European painters of our time.
