SCHÖNES leben
Description
A gripping novel about pain, hope and the power of art to paint life anew.
16-year-old Viktor doesn't have it easy. He suffers from years of sometimes violent marital disputes between his parents. To save himself, he creates his own world of beauty and develops a passion for painting. After his mother and sisters have moved out, he is left alone in the house with his father. Although there is now more peace and Viktor successfully applies to the art academy, he still has to defend himself against the verbal attacks and humiliations of his father, who tries to drown the pain of the lost dream of a large family in alcohol. Vacillating between understanding and hatred, fighting for his father's love and recognition, Viktor develops into an idiosyncratic painter. He is supported by his professor and the nude model Irm. The pub conversations between the art students reflect the zeitgeist of the turbulent early 1980s.
