Description

MY NY – New York Zeichnungen/Drawings

Selection, editing and introduction text by Sibylle Badstübner-Gröger. With a poem by American writer Matthew Graham in German translation by Ingo Schulze.

"I LOVE NEW YORK - MY NY" shows for the first time, largely in original size, a selection of 65 drawings, sketches, and objects by the Berlin sculptor Berndt Wilde, which were created during his stay in New York in the winter of 2005 on sales slips, bags, notepads, and in sketchbooks. These momentary sketches are neither classical sculptural drawings nor graphic documentations, but furiously drawn impressions. On his forays through the streets and museums of the American metropolis, the artist captured architectural peculiarities, such as staircases, room views in the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the American Museum of Natural History, or suburban facades and crownings of skyscrapers or individual works of art in the collections. Always on the spot, he would reach for his fineliner or felt-tip pen and the receipt of his daily shopping. In this way, stores, addresses, goods, prices, and dates have remained legible and integrated into the artistic design, giving the viewer a vivid picture of the artist's New York days. Berndt Wilde developed the three-dimensional, shadow-casting spatial bodies made of wood, which were based primarily on the glass blocks of the MOMA, in the small workroom of the "Point B Studio" studio house in Brooklyn by lamplight.

With 65 drawings and objects.

The volume, which will be published on the occasion of the artist's 75th birthday, shows a previously unknown and surprising side of the Berlin sculptor.
