Mutters Tag
Description
Mutters Tag - Das Lied der traurigen Mutter
The moving story of Maria-Maria, who frees herself from the shackles of her past, leaving the role of victim to shape her own destiny.
Maria-Maria turns her back on her Romanian homeland and starts a new life in Berlin. The big city offers her the space she needs to come to terms with her past, especially with her dominant mother.
When the seven-year-old starts school, her mother burns all her daughter's dolls. The mother is a woman who makes the unshakeable principles of communism her own. That is why she forbids her daughter to have any individual desires. The daughter's natural need for personal growth cannot flourish here.
Yet Maria-Maria dares to go her own way, disappointing not only her parents but also all her fellow party members. Forced into a corner by systemic constraints and collectivism, Maria-Maria throws off the shackles of her family and finds freedom in another country. But the emotional confrontation with her mother continues unabated.
Mutters Tag - Das Lied der traurigen Mutter is also a profound reflection on the complex bond between mothers and daughters.
