Gerda Lepke – Briefe an Freunde

Sibylle Badstübner-Gröger (Hrsg)

For the first time 60 + 1 letters with paintings by Gerda Lepke to friends, collectors, and artists are now at hand in a selective assortment, edited by Berlin art historian Sibylle Badstübner-Gröger on the occasion of one of the most notable Dresden painters' and graphic artists' 80th birthday. Gerda Lepke received Dresden's first ever cultural prize in 1993 and was one of the cofounders of the Saxon Academy of Arts in 1996. Her works became famous due to many exhibitions and her art is now kept in numerous domestic and foreign collections.

Amongst the addressees of the letters are Christa and Gerhard Wolf, Ingo Schulze, the paintress Petra Kasten, the sculptresses Maria Lino and Konstanze Feindt-Eißner, the sculptor Joachim Kuhlmann, the painter Hubertus Giebe and many more. Gerda Lepke sketched her well-known motifs figure, tree, cloud and landscape onto these very personally worded letters with quick brush- and pen strokes as well as watercolor.
