Decades after dramatic climate change, the earth is covered by a thick layer of ice in large areas as far as the African continent. People have adapted biologically and spend their meagre lives in tents and gliding vehicles. The dream destination for young daredevils is the city of Tripoli, where a life with all the comforts of civilisation beckons. But first they have to pass a tough test, a journey on the ice with an examiner who tests the future "hero's" physical resilience. The highlight of the test is the confrontation with an area that the ice dwellers call "Green Hell". But the test candidate Falt is undaunted and wants to force his tester Ted to follow him into the overgrown wilderness. From here, of all places, he wants to set a radical renewal in motion.
