Description
Das geheimnisvolle Ganze - Erinnerungen an die Malerin Squaw Hildegard Rose
The title Das geheimnisvolle Ganze refers to a speech by Dr Gernot Thiele, the best expert on the work of Squaw Hildegard Rose. After studying under Gottfried Brockmann in Kiel and Peter Voigt in Braunschweig, the painter lived in Berlin and then in Potsdam until her death. Her largely non-representational painting, based on Art Informel, is dominated by suggestive colour spaces leading to infinity or by colour fields interspersed with lines or collaged X-ray photographs. The mostly dark colours are applied and removed in several layers - like a palimpsest. The pictorial compositions are characterised by musicality and rhythm. From 1986-2017, her work was shown in exhibitions, mainly in Potsdam and Berlin. In this new book, many of her works are published for the first time, as are the photographs and written material from her estate. The artistic estate has largely been catalogued by the association "Private Künstlernachlässe Brandenburg e.V." and can be viewed online.
