Wolf Birke

Wolf Birke, born in Ahlhorn in the Oldenburg region, has lived in Wuppertal-Elberfeld since 1953 and is a photographer and graphic designer. Infected with the ‘bacillus photographicus’ by his teacher Harald Mante while studying visual communication, he has never put his camera down. Since becoming self-employed in 1976, he has produced countless works for companies, institutions, publishers and magazines as well as an extensive archive. He was one of the first professional photographers to enter the world of professional digital photography in 1992 in partnership with the camera manufacturer Rollei. He lives and works in Wuppertal's Luisenviertel district and has recently opened his studio as ‘raum87’ for the presentation of his own work in dialogue with other artists from the fields of literature, painting and music.
