Ulla Mothes
Ulla Mothes grew up sheltered in northern Brandenburg and Berlin. When she left the GDR in 1986, she left everything behind. Inner abandonment and the struggle to become one with herself are the hallmarks of her narrative.
She always poses a social question in her works. Following her family novels Geteilte Träume (Divided Dreams) and Flüchtiges Glück (Fleeting Happiness) about the period of German division and its aftermath, she now puts her finger on highly topical issues. Morgenluft is about the power of community. Ich spüre dich leben is about the courage not to look away.
The passionate editor and author lived in Frankfurt am Main for a while and explored the cultural melting pot of Zanzibar. She now lives in Berlin. Winner of the White Raven; shortlisted for the DELIA Literature Prize.
