Luis Pereyra

Luis Pereyra is a dancer, choreographer, multi-instrumentalist and composer. Born in Santiago del Estero in 1965, he began his comprehensive dance training at the Escuela Nacional de Danzas in Buenos Aires in 1969, studied choreography at the Teatro Colón and, thanks to Héctor Zaraspe, became acquainted with the work of the Juilliard School in New York. His professional career began in 1975 (Ballet Mario Machaco, Ballet Salta, Santiago Ayala ‘El Chúcaro’). From 1987 to 2000 he was a solo dancer and choreographer in the legendary production Tango Argentino (2000 Tony Award/Best Choreography). He performed with Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Peter Coyote in the USA and danced for Lady Diana and Prince Charles. The Los Angeles Times dubbed him the ‘Fred Astaire of Argentina’. In Buenos Aires, he took over the artistic direction of various tango theatres and was awarded the Argentinian State Prize for Culture in 2012 and 2016. He founded his own company in 1987.
