Ali Akbar Safaian

Ali Akbar Safaian born in Sangsar (Iran), painter, sculptor and poet; studied fine arts at the Kamal ol-Molk art school in Tehran. He is an important representative of the fantastic-surrealist current of the artistic renewal movement of ‘Iranian Modernism’ of the 1970s. His works have been shown in Tehran museums and internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions. After the Islamists came to power in Iran, he fled into exile in Germany in 1986 as a politically persecuted artist. Safaian's poems were published in German in 2011 in the anthology ‘Hier ist Iran! Persian poetry in the German-speaking world’. His poetry collection ‘The Violet Lady Dragonfly’ was published in 2007.
